Detroit Pistons Eyeing Jason Collins

The Detroit Pistons have expressed some interest in adding free agent Jason Collins to their roster, according to sources involved in the process.

Though no formal offer has been made, Detroit has been in talks with Collins, who in late April became the first openly gay athlete in American professional sports.

For the first six weeks of Collins’ free agency, no team has shown the baller any interest – which wasn’t unexpected given Collins’ stat sheet. Collins played in 38 games last season with the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards, but only averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds in 10.1 minutes of play.

He has continued to work out in a local gym with hopes of a solid offer coming his way.

“I look at it, honestly, like any other free agency in the past several years, where I know I have to stay patient,” Collins told reporters in July. “And I know that at this point in my career, you remain hopeful that there’s a job and an opportunity waiting for you once teams start to fill out their rosters.”
