Marvel has brought back the god of thunder in a newly released “Thor: The Dark World” trailer and he looks way more serious than he did in the first one. Chris Hemsworth’s reprises his role as Thor and squares off against the villainous dark elf, Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston).
“Thor: The Dark World,” which looks more like a fantasy than superhero film, picks up after the events that brought “The Avengers” to New York City.
Now back in his home world, Asgard, Thor has imprisoned his adopted brother Loki for his role in the attack on NYC. However, the hero has to ask his mischievous sibling for help when a “darkness” threatens the universe.
That darkness in the movie takes form in the shape of Dark Elves, a race bent on total destruction of the universe. Watch the trailer below to witness some of the destructive tendencies of these creatures.
The film is helmed by “Game of Thrones” director Alan Taylor and also stars Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins.
“Thor: The Dark World” opens in 3-D on Nov. 8.
