Gabrielle Union clearly didn’t get the memo courtesy of Rihanna that “grey is the new black” and “Blondies, it’s quiet for y’all!” The “Being Mary Jane” actress shared a photo of her new blonde hairstyle on Instagram with the caption: “New Day, New Job… New Do.”
It’s clear the actress had bigger things to be concerned with than taking style tips from the Bajan pop star.
Since 2007, Union’s reputation has been dragged in the mud thanks to a nasty divorce battle between her boyfriend Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife and former high school sweetheart, Siohvaughn Funches. Less than two days ago however, Union’s beau scored a victory after settling the seemingly never-ending divorce battle – awarding $5 million to Funches and a non-disparage agreement between the two. The agreement forbids either party from slandering or criticizing the other.
Union could have benefited from such an agreement in May of 2010, when Funches filed a lawsuit accusing her of sabotaging her marriage. Funches claimed Union caused her emotional distress and put her sons, then 8-year-old Zaire and 2-year-old Zion at risk. The lawsuit was dropped later that year. The damage was done, however. Union was labeled a homewrecker, a mistress and the other woman.
In a 2012 interview with JET magazine, Union responded:
“I think people mistook me taking the high road as an admission of guilt. Dwyane and I made a decision very early to not react to the negativity. And I kept feeling like the truth would come out. The problem is, when it did, nobody cared. What I discovered on social media is that people don’t read the entire story.”
Hopefully, all parties can move on from this ordeal! In the meantime, a fresh new ‘do could bring some much-needed new energy into the actress’ life.
