Chris Brown plead not guilty to a hit-and-run charge yesterday in a Los Angeles court. On May 12, Brown along with his girlfriend at the time, Karrueche Tran, were involved a traffic accident that led to the hit-and-run charge.
Brown was also charged with driving without a license and driving without proof of insurance. According to a spokesman for the LA City Attorney’s Office, those charges were dismissed during the same proceeding after Brown’s lawyer provided proof that Brown is insured in Virginia.
The “Fine China” singer defended himself on Twitter last week after a judge revoked his probation in connection with the accident.
“I did everything I was supposed to do during the so called hit n run, I provided the correct info. There were no injuries or damages. C’mon!!!”
Brown, who is trying to avoid jail time if a judge finds he did violate his probation, is fighting the LA City Attorney who refuses to drop the case.
The victim in the crash, Olga Gure-Kovalenko, confirmed through her attorney that the crash was indeed minor and Brown did everything by the book. The LA City Attorney, however, convinced a judge to take the case to trial with a date set for August.
Brown has been on felony probation since 2009 for assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna the night before the Grammy’s in February of that year.
