Say What? ‘Man Of Steel’ Sequel Will Feature Batman Vs. Superman

Director Zack Snyder shocked Comic-Con attendees when he made a surprise announcement during a Warner Bros. panel, that the Man of Steel sequel will revolve around both Superman and Batman.

“I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter,” Snyder said in a statement. “Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest superheroes in the world.”

Cavill, will reprise his role as the man of steel, however, no one has been selected to fill the boots of Christian Bale, the actor who has publicly stated he was done with the role after playing the caped-crusader in Christian Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

“Man of Steel” stars Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and Diane Lane are also set to return for the Batman vs. Superman movie, according to the studio’s announcement.

Production of the film is expected to begin next year in preparation for a summer 2015 release. The Man of Steel sequel is not yet titled, but it seems to be the next step to a much-anticipated, “Justice League” movie — Warner Bros. answer to Marvel’s Avengers.

Although the announcement sent ripples through the planet, this is not the studio’s first attempt at producing a Batman vs. Superman movie. Several years ago, The Perfect Storm’s Wolfgang Petersen was recruited to direct the project.

However the kryptonite of development hell kept it from ever getting off the ground.
