It’s Going Down: Alex Rodriguez Returns to Yankees Next Week

Alex Rodriguez is scheduled to return to the New York Yankees early next week. The All-Star player will complete his rehab in the minor league this weekend before traveling with the team to Texas on the following Monday.

“That’s the hope,” general manager Brian Cashman said in a recent phone interview. “We’ll see through the weekend. We started the 20-day rehab and once we felt he could complete the 20 days and be available to us in Texas. So let’s get through the weekend and see where he is at and see if he is major league able.”

The slugger may be at-bat on Monday, Cashman mentioned that the Yankees may play Rodriguez on that day or give him an extra day off to rest and instead play him on Tuesday.

“We have to get through the weekend, and then we will evaluate it,” Cashman said.

Alex Rodriguez, who is attempting to make a return from a second hip surgery, has not played on the New York Yankees roster since the 2012 postseason.

On Wednesday morning, when asked about his performance on the minor league field and his timely return to the Bronx team A-Rod said, “To take a mid-90s fastball and hit it that way, I was certainly not able to do that the last two or three months of the season last year,” Rodriguez said afterward. “So that’s definitely a good check in the box. We’re on schedule.”
