The lucrative deal is worth $43 million, and means Cruz will have to answer to the Giants through 2018. The deal includes $15.6 million in guaranteed money and $2.8 million from his salary for the upcoming year, which means Cruz could earn almost $46 million over the next six seasons. This would make Cruz the highest paid receiver in franchise history.
Cruz said he “was smiling from ear to ear” as he penned his new contract at the Giants offices Monday.
“I’m excited to get it done,” Cruz said on a conference call. “I wasn’t looking for the most amount of money and how much I could get. I just wanted my family to be taken care of and to play in this city for a very long time, so I’m excited.”
