Kelly Rowland Admits to Abuse by Boyfriend, Envying Beyonce

Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland is finally copping to what many fans have believed all along: She’s jealous of Beyoncé.

In her emotional new track Dirty Laundry, Rowland sings that it was hard to watch her best friend and former bandmate become a superstar while she languished in the background.

One lyric is particularly revealing: “When my sister was on stage killin’ it like a (expletive)/ I was enraged, feelin’ it like a (expletive)/ Bird in a cage/ You would never know what I was dealin’ with/ Went our separate ways but I was happy she was killin’ it/ Bittersweet she was up, I was down/ No lie, I feel good for her but what do I do now? … Post-Survivor, she on fire/ Who wanna hear my (expletive)?”

Rowland reveals another secret in the song as well: a past abusive relationship. She sings that she was battered by a former boyfriend (whom she doesn’t name) and went through a period of depression and pain where she was mad at Beyoncé and everyone else for trying to help her. “Kinda lucky I was in her shadow/ Phone call from my sister, ‘What’s the matter?’ ” she sings.

And, Rowland says that when her alleged abuser “trapped” her, he told her that no one else loved her, including her mother and Beyoncé, effectively turning the singer against her longtime friend. “I missed ya,” Rowland sings to Beyoncé.

Interestingly, frequent Beyoncé collaborator The Dream produced Rowland’s track, which is from her upcoming album Talk A Good Game.

Listen to the song in its entirety, and keep in mind that it features plenty of strong language.
