Beyonce, Kerry, Alicia Rock the Met Gala While Nicki, LaLa, Kim K Disappoint

The 2013 MET Ball is finally here and as any big celebrity knows, all those other red carpets were just practice. While stars including Beyonce, Kerry Washington, Alicia Keys, and even Angela Simmons looked stunning on the red carpet as they fully embraced the night’s punk theme. Other fashion hopefuls such as Nicki Minaj, LaLa Anthony, and Kim Kardashian fell short of a fashion success.

You can be fabulous at the Oscars, you can strut your way down the red carpet at the Grammys, but it is all for not if you can’t get your fashion act together for the MET Ball.

Queen Bey totally redeemed herself after her black and white pantsuit at the Grammys was rather underwhelming. This time she decided she wasn’t going to hold back as she took the biggest fashion risk of the night and worked it like no other.

With her Mrs. Carter World Tour under way, rumors of a second baby on the way as well, her lip syncing scandal at President Obama’s inauguration, rumors of her copying other young musicians, and her dramatic statement dress at last year’s Met Gala Baddie Bey wanted to remind everyone that she is one mega star who can always take the media’s heat… and wear it too.

Beyonce’s dress was covered in life-like flames that made it appear as if the “Grown Woman” songstress was emerging from the flames. The leather bodice embraced the nights “Punk: Chaos to Couture” theme very well and while the matching knee high boots and long glovers were a huge risk in an industry that looks down upon being too matchy-matchy, Mrs. Carter definitely made it work.

Speaking of a woman on fire, Alicia Keys took to the red carpet in a sexy black and red dress that hugged her figure perfectly. The leather bodice featured cut outs on the side while the dazzling red bottom of the dress accentuated her full hips.

Then Keys took the punk theme a notch farther by adding a red streak in her new short do. We didn’t spot Swizz on the carpet anywhere but we’re sure he was on the edge of his seat waiting for his wife to get back home in that sexy ensemble by Jason Wu.

Then, of course, there was Kerry Washington. Kerry has been taking over the red carpet fashion scene and the 2013 MET Gala was just proof that she can take a daring look and pull it off flawlessly.

The “Scandal” actress picked a floor length gown with a funky skull print made by the ever so talented Vera Wang. So many unique and quirky details on the dress, Washington kept her hair simple and sleek.

She was definitely one of the stars who nailed the punk look as she strutted down the carpet looking like a sexy, chic, couture version of Morticia Adams from the Addams Family.

Kerry isn’t the only star who has recently emerged as being a red carpet all-star. Jennifer Lopez rarely disappoints and this time she had us struggling to pick our jaws up off the red carpet.

Now when any celebrity says they are going to flaunt their body in a full cheetah print gown our faces tend to scrunch up because honestly it just doesn’t sound red carpet worthy – especially not for the 2013 MET Ball.

Well J. Lo quickly put me back in my place and proved that she could rock a dolphin suit to the MET Gala and still blow everyone else away.

The full cheetah print Michael Kors dress fit Lopez like a glove and her messy up-do with heavy eyeliner pulled together her chic punk look flawlessly.

Angela Simmons has been flying under our radar for quite some time, but when the Simmons’ daughter shows up, she shows out. She posted pictures to Instagram of her getting ready with the help of her glam squad and we must say she looks like some sort of sexy Greek warrior – and we like it.

Unfortunately, not everybody impressed us at the MET Ball and some outfits were so bad that we wished security would have turned the stars away and ordered them to go home and try again.

Nicki Minaj’s Tommy Hilfiger dress was underwhelming and did not embraced the punk aspect of the night at all. It seemed like the hip hop Barbie tried to make up for it with some big hair and dark red lipstick, but it just wasn’t quite enough.

Nicki’s dress is even more disappointing when you consider the fact that this was the one red carpet event with a theme that would have worked so well with her usual crazy style.

LaLa Anthony also missed the mark as the famous basketball wife somehow stumbled upon by prom dress from high school that I was forced to grab off the Macy’s clearance rack because I couldn’t afford anything else.

I’m a huge fan of LaLa and commend her for putting the Celtic’s bench player back in his place via Instagram, but this dress is just not fit for the MET Gala and it is ill fitting.

We all know Vasquez-Anthony has a killer body with some dangerous curves but the dress didn’t really embrace any of that. It appeared as if the gown was just a size or two too big for the petite socialite and her hair just came across as too boring with the already simple gown.

While both of these looks were mediocre, it was Kim Kardashian who decided to try her luck on the carpet looking like Grandma’s couch.

For some reason the reality star made the same mistake that Adele made not too long ago. Floral prints are definitely in, but too much of it is a bad thing.

Kimmy K was literally up to her neck in flowers in the Ricardo Tisci gown. Perhaps the dress wouldn’t have been terrible on its own, but when she tried to mimic Queen Bey’s matching gloves and matching shoes fashion risk it just didn’t work for her.

Perhaps she needs to fly up to Paris and spend some time with Mr. West who has been looking quite cool and dapper in all his red carpet appearances lately.

There were tons of red carpet successes and red carpet blunders at the 2013 MET Ball Nicole Richie’s daring all white ensemble to Amar’e Sodemire’s wife Alexis looking like a gothic version of Sesame Street’s Big Bird and you can check out more of the popular looks of the night here.
