Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul looked to deride President Obama’s recent support of same sex marriages, saying he didn’t think Obama’s views “could get any gayer.”
The Kentucky senator made the comments while out campaigning for his father Ron Paul. “The president recently weighed in on marriage and you know he said his views were evolving on marriage. Call me cynical, but I wasn’t sure his views on marriage could get any gayer.”
The crude joke garnered a few laughs from the crowd, according to ABC News. Paul insists that he is not spreading hate, but merely looking to save tradition.
“The family is really important and we shouldn’t just give up on it,” he said.
