Rihanna’s infamous 777 promotional tour from last year will be given a closer look in a new Fox documentary.
Last year, Rihanna famously crammed 256 fans and journalists aboard a Boeing 777 and let them follow her around the globe as she performed 7 shows in 7 days. The tour stops included Mexico City, Toronto, Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, London and New York.
The trip was a disaster, according to many journalists on board. Rolling Stone contributor Jeff Rosenthal gave a rundown of the trip, which frequently was plagued by delays, no wifi, drunk fans and limited access to Rihanna. One of Rosenthal’s most vivid anecdotes involved the entire jet waiting on the tarmac in Paris while Rihanna shopped for lingerie. Another time, a delirious Australian journalist stripped naked and streaked down the aisle of the jet.
Unbeknownst to the public (and likely the journalists), Rihanna apparently had a film crew covering the entire thing. Her production company, Fenty Films, will be producing the documentary along with Fox. The project will be called Rihanna 777.
The 777 tour was also around the time of Rihanna’s reconciliation with Chris Brown, yet the pair hadn’t gone public yet about their reunion, despite numerous clues from their respective social media pages.
In a January Rolling Stone interview, Rihanna finally confirmed the pair had gotten back together. “You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it’s different now. We don’t have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about s—. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don’t want to lose that,” she said.
Rihanna continued that she was tired of keeping their relationship a secret for fear of public backlash. “I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it.”
Rihanna 777 is currently slated to air May 6 on Fox.
