Joy Behar will not be enjoying The View for much longer.
The 70-year-old comedian/talk show host announced she will be leaving the ABC daytime talk show in August after 16 long years as a co-host. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Behar’s contract will expire at the end of the season and she has elected not to renew it in order to pursue other projects.
“Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning,” read a statement from the network. “We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season.”
Behar and co-creator Barbara Walters were the last original cast members of the daytime show. Now Walters is the only one remaining and currently occupies the panel with Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd.
Besides The View, Behar also hosted The Joy Behar Show on HLN from 2009 to 2011 and currently hosts Joy Behar: Say Anything! on Current TV, which debuted last year. Now, the TV personality should have a lot more time on her hands since Joy Behar: Say Anything! will be canceled once Current TV completes its transition to Al Jazeera.
