Rihanna Talks Babies, Chris Brown in ELLE UK

Rihanna graced the cover of the April 2013 edition of ELLE UK, but for the first time it wasn’t the actual spread itself that had us captivated with the Bajan beauty.

RiRi opened up about her relationship with “best friend” and boyfriend Chris Brown and even revealed that she hopes to be starting a family soon.

When asked about where she sees herself in five years she gave a telling answer that revealed RiRi actually does have some motherly instincts.

“I will probably have a kid,” she answered.

Other than starting a family she also admitted that she really just wants some time off from music and touring.

“And I’m praying I can go on vacation for a good month,” she added. “And I’ll have set some things up so I don’t have to tour for the rest of my life, even though I love touring. I want health and happiness in five years.”

Although she never said she wanted Chris Brown to be the father of that “kid” in five years, she did admit that she feels like they will be together for life. In fact, that’s exactly why she sings her single “Stay” to her lover.

“Stay is a story about having love that close and wanting it to last forever,” RiRi explained. “You don’t have that feeling with everybody so when you have it you don’t want to let go of it. I would definitely say that he [Chris Brown] is the one I have that kind of relationship with.”

For now, however she is okay with just building on their friendship.

“…right now that’s just what we want, a great friendship that’s unbreakable,” Breezy’s boo told ELLE.

Of course, in the midst of her lovey dovey interview she had to throw in her Rihanna-ish edge and talk about her pot pictures and gun tattoo.

“Everybody wanted to know what was happening in my life,” the paparazzi hating celeb said. “Is she a drug addict? No. Is she an alcoholic? No. Is she a victim? No. That’s when I got the gun. It was a symbol of strength. I’ll never be a victim.”

And if you thought she was posting pictures of her smoking pot for attention, she has a different explanation. According to the 25-year-old R&B songstress, she does it so the world will know who she is.

“That’s why I’m posting pictures of myself smoking pot, to tell the truth about myself,” the “Diamonds” songstress said. “I’ve got so much to think about, why bring all this extra sh** by being dishonest?”

While it may sound strange at first, think about the Justin Bieber fiasco. Nobody knew the blonde haired crooner as anything more than a happy go lucky lover boy. Once his fans discovered that he was human just like they were, they resulted to cutting themselves and many actually became depressed.

With Rihanna, the story has pretty much been consistent. Nothing is really a surprise. When you check her Twitter you expect to see half naked photos and tons of pot pics. That’s just who she is (according to her explanation anyway).

Regardless of why she’s putting the pictures up there is one person who disapproves of them that actually puts a little fear into the bold Good Girl Gone Bad – her mom.

She went on to reveal that her mother disapproves of the many nude photos she posts on social media networks and that she does actually fear her mother.

A few days ago her mother called her to complain about the pics her BFF Melissa Forde posted to Instagram.

“My mom, she went crazy on me,” she said. “I was embarrassed. I felt like I got my ass whupped in front of my class in school!”

Well her mom will be glad to know that she is covered up in her spread for ELLE UK.

The high fashion photoshoot has the fashion loving songstress in simple but elegant blue hues as she worked the cover in a way that only she can.

Inside the mag there are 12 pages full of her usual bedroom eyes, fierce poses, and high fashion ensembles that Jay-Z’s mentee has become known for.

Still independent.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
