New 'Oblivion' Trailer

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Tom-Cruise-as-WALL-E sci-fi blockbuster Oblivion. There’s some new footage mixed in with that from the first trailer. What strikes me, though is how much more plot detail this one gives away. I figured that the first trailer had revealed pretty much everything about the plot, but this one tells us even more. I really, really wish they’d stop doing that with promo materials.

I mean, it’s presumably meant to be a surprise when it turns out that Tom Cruise’s character has been lied to about the nature of his world, right? In that case, you’ll just be boring the audience for a while as they impatiently sit through all the exposition that they already know to be false. Whatever, I don’t sell these things.

Anyway, the movie stars Cruise and Morgan Freeman, and is directed by Tron: Legacy‘s Joseph Kosinski. Knowing what happens ahead of time doesn’t automatically ruin one’s appreciation of a movie, so we can still be optimistic about it.

Oblivion comes out April 12th. Behold the trailer:
