Johnny Depp is going to have a busy 2013.
Depp has been pegged to star in Transcendence, which will begin principal photography in April. This film marks the directorial debut of Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister. Pfister will direct from Jack Paglen’s screenplay, which was developed with the help of the films co-producer, Annie Marter. The plot for the film has yet to be released.
After wrapping up Transcendence Depp will star in the crime thriller Black Mass. The film is based on the the New York Times best-seller Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob written by two Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerald O’Neil. The film follows the life of notorious mob boss Whitey Bulger and is set to be directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man and Sleepers). Filming begins early summer of this year.
