Mike Bibby, former NBA player, seemed to enjoy being ejected from his son’s high school basketball game over the weekend, playing to the crowd as he was escorted from the gym by armed security.
No one really has said what Bibby communicated to referees to be ejected from the Shadow Mountain game against Sunnyslope in Phoenix. Maybe he was hiding his embarrassment by waving to fans and shaking hands as he left the gym where his retired jersey hangs in the rafters.
Rest assured, Bibby, who did his share of whining during his NBA career, berated a referee over what he perceived to be missed calls. That was one of his specialties when in the league, especially the last few years when he was mostly an ineffective spot-up shooter.
Recently, Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard was escorted out of a high school gym for disagreeing with a call during his son’s basketball game.
You have to believe this is not fun for the kids.
Bibby Jr. is a freshman point guard for Shadow Mountain, reportedly averaging 9 points and 4 assists a game during his first high school campaign. He is considered a star on the horizon.
For his part, the younger Bibby hasn’t tried to skirt any of the pressure that comes from being his father’s son, according to YahooSports. Seems the kid has tried to follow as closely as possible in his dad’s path. Not only is the younger Bibby playing at his father’s alma mater, he is also wearing his dad’s No. 10 jersey. And he plays for his father’s AAU program, Team Bibby. And he closely resembles the ex-Sacramento King, Atlanta Hawk, New York Knick and Miami Heat player.
By the way, after Bibby was ejected, Bibby’s son’s team went on to get blown out, 60-42.
