A 280-acre film complex is being planned near Fayetteville — a project that could employ up to 1,500 at full capacity.
Rivers Rock, LLC, representing a group of Atlanta-area investors, plans to build what they claim would be the largest film production complex in metro Atlanta. The investment group said it is in discussions with London-based Pinewood Studios Group to manage and operate the studio complex.
Pinewood Studios is best known as the home of the Superman and James Bond film series.
The development, at the southwest corner of Sandy Creek Road and Veterans Parkway, provides the studio infrastructure needed to attract $100 million-to-$200 million blockbuster films, said Matt Forshee, president of the Fayette County Development Authority.
Iron Man 3 production went to North Carolina because the state had the infrastructure to support a large production, Forshee said.
Georgia has done a great job of attracting film and TV productions that require natural scenery, such as mountains, Forshee said. Where it has lacked, is in attracting productions that need major studio space.
