This trailer quietly snuck in amongst all the other recent releases, but it probably deserves your attention more than any of them. Italian director Matteo Garrone, whose organized crime drama Gomorra was one of the best films of 2008, has a new movie coming stateside this year. Reality is a dramedy about a poor man who becomes obsessed with the idea of becoming a contestant on the Italian version of Big Brother, believing that doing so will solve all of his problems.
Gomorra was a crime film with a social conscience, and it appears that Garrone is up to his old tricks again here. Italy is even more obsessed with reality television than we are, if you can believe that. The movie won the Grand Prix, AKA the “second place” prize, at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
Take a gander at the trailer below. Realilty comes to the US on March 15th.
