Nicki Minaj ‘Idol’ Antics Boost Album Sales; Talks Clothing Line

Those inspired by Nicki Minaj‘s esoteric stylings will soon be able to buy the rapper’s look for themselves. American Idol‘s latest judge announced she will be launching a clothing line to be sold at Kmart and Shop Your Way.

Affordability was a key goal for the rapper as she chose her retail partners. “My biggest goal was to make a line that was going to be affordable to my fans and also rich enough in quality that they’ll feel like they’re wearing exactly what I’m wearing… I am so excited to work with this iconic, mass retailer and to bring affordable fashion to my beautiful barbz all across the U.S.” she said.

Minaj will be joined by another reality TV judge, The Voice’s  Adam Levine, who will also create lines for both brands.

“We are thrilled to align Kmart and SHOP YOUR WAY with two of America’s superstars,” said Imran Jooma , an executive vice president for the companies. “We welcome Adam and Nicki into our world and look forward to capturing their energy and creativity on ShopYourWay.com and translating it into unique apparel, accessories and other merchandise.”

Minaj is known for her rather unorthodox looks, from red riding hood capes to pink wings and giant bows. The rapper has a lot to celebrate, as her stint on Idol seems to be boosting her record sales. Sales of her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded have almost reached 1.5 million worldwide, with single “Va Va Voom” enjoying a resurgence on the charts. Nicki first released the track back in the fall, but it seems to be experiencing renewed popularity, hitting a peak of #11 on the dance charts.

“Va Va Voom” has been featured on Idol and on a new promo for the E! network’s red carpet season. Minaj can add that success to her reported $12 million judging paycheck and income from her fashion partnership.

No word on whether any of her designs will appear on this season of American Idol, or whether fellow judge and rival Mariah Carey will help rep the new line.
