After years of saying there were no plans for a reunion, Destiny’s Child is officially reuniting for Super Bowl XLVII’s halftime show at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans Feb. 3. Bowl officials made the announcement Jan. 11. CBS will have the U.S. telecast.
Destiny’s Child has had several lineup changes. The most recent is Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, who are all in the reunion show. All three have released solo albums.
The Super Bowl show will be the first full Destiny’s Child performance since the group amicably disbanded in 2006. (In 2007, Knowles sang part of the Destiny’s Child hit “Survivor” with Rowland and Williams during one of Knowles’ concerts, but this does not count as a full Destiny’s Child show.)
News of the reunion comes one day after Sony Music and Destiny’s Child announced that the group has a new song, “Nuclear,” on a Destiny’s Child compilation called “Love Songs.” With the exception of “Nuclear,” all of the tracks are previously released. “Love Songs” goes on sale in North America on Jan. 29, and on other dates in other parts of the world.
