Nicki Minaj surprised “American Idol” producers when she showed just how warm and intelligent she was despite her nasty feud with Mariah Carey.
Ever since the news broke that Nicki Minaj would be one of the judges for the new season of “American Idol” fans of the show weren’t too excited about the announcement.
Minaj seems like nothing but a pop-ish rapper at first, and her feud with Mariah made her seem like she would be nothing more than a rude, trashy bully.
To the producers surprise however, the hip hop Barbie had a good head on her shoulders and a heart of gold.
“The perception of Nicki is unfair, really,” said Idol executive Ken Warwick. “Everyone thought she was just a daft, half-educated rapper. But she has got a heart, and it’s starting to show, along with her intelligence, which threw some of us as well. And her eloquence and her grasp of what’s going on.”
While many people are pretty sure they have the outspoken Barb figured out, Warwick is positive that if they tune into the show they’ll see a side of Minaj that hip hop doesn’t often show.
“I think she’ll surprise a lot of people,” he added.
Meanwhile, rumors would suggest that Nicki has been anything but the warm and eloquent mentor that Ken painted her to be, especially during the big feud with Mariah Carey.
While neither of the new judges said much about the beef between them, the “Starships” songstress did admit that she can be a scary person when people mess with her.
“I am scary and intimidating,” Nicki said during the feud but refused to directly address her co-judge. “I definitely demand respect. I’m also a sweet person. I’m a loving person. But I don’t want to be f***ed with.”
Perhaps Nick Cannon’s wife just brings out some of the worst in Lil Wayne’s mentor, because when she was asked about her image she couldn’t refrain from pointing fingers at Carey.
“I could think of at least one other person that shows more cleavage and skin than me,” she responded when asked if she thought her image was too much for the family show.
We’re pretty sure Randy Jackson and Keith Urban aren’t flashing their goodies on the show so that only leaves one other judge – the R&B diva herself.
While the reigning queen of hip hop was throwing sneaky blows, the mother of two was still busy trying to convince the world that there was never any real beef between her and Nicki.
“Sometimes things get heated for their own reasons,” the “We Belong Together” singer said of the beef. “I don’t think the panel has an issue.”
Well if the panel does have any unresolved issues with one another it didn’t show when they posed for the cover of “The Hollywood Reporter.”
The entire cast, including Ryan Seacrest of course, will be featured on the latest cover of “THR,” but it seems like somebody should get fired.
Mariah and Nicki have spent so much time beefing with each other that they may have overlooked their real enemy – their stylists.
We aren’t sure if the stars personal stylists got them ready for the shoot or if a separate stylists threw the aged garments on the ladies of “Idol,” but the ensembles certainly didn’t photograph well.
Mariah Carey has been the new face of Jenny Craig, but the purple tank top dress that looks like it came fresh out of the juniors section of Walmart makes the curvy songstress just look bloated and out of shape – which we know isn’t the case.
To make the outfit even worse, somebody paired her black tights with a chunky brown heel that really just seemed out of place.
The self-proclaimed Barbie didn’t look much better either, and if she was a Barbie she certainly wouldn’t have been taken out the box… or off the shelf for that matter.
Nicki was dressed in an oversized hi-lo sweater, white tights, and some funky printed cross between cowboy boots and rain boots. We’re used to the the “Va Va Voom” rapper having some unusual outfits, but this one was so plain that Nicki almost disappeared… literally.
Her bleach blonde wig appeared to vanish as it lays on top of the white sweater, while she herself seems to be fading into the brick wall behind her.
The men of “Idol” looked nice, except for the fact that Keith is noticeably under dresses compared for the rest of the guys.
Hopefully we’ll see some better fashion sense when American Idol airs on January 16 on Fox at 8pm.
