Kanye West and his girlfriend Kim Kardashian continue to share their love for all things leather – including a leather skirt plus rapper A$AP Rocky defends his dress long shirt.
Twitter, Facebook, and even Tumblr were set ablaze when Kanye took the stage for the 12-12-12 Concert and immediately made #KanyeWestSkirt a trending topic on Twitter.
The “Mercy” rapper emerged into the spotlight wearing a black leather Givenchy skirt which he so tastefully paired with some black leggings, which may have looked much better on his curvaceous girlfriend. At least now we know what Jay-Z’s BFF did with all of his girlfriend’s clothes after he raided her closet and replaced it with a new wardrobe.
Suddenly Mr. West was the butt of every joke, from “Kanye ‘kilt’ it” to “Who gets a Twitter account first … #BonJoviTurtleNeck or #KanyeWestSkirt.”
Another online comedian even pulled Kim into the jokes saying, “I guess now we all know that Kim wear’s the pants in this relationship… literally.”
The 12-12-12 Concert was supposed to be all about Sandy relief efforts, but it looks like Kanye’s skirt took the focus off of Sandy faster than he snatched the mic from Taylor Swift.
Another user on Twitter questioned where the look came from saying, “Maybe a new item from the Kardashian collection?”
Ironically, we’re pretty sure we just spotted Kimmy out and about with Kanye at her side as she wore what appears to be a very similar skirt to what her boo rocked on stage.
Before fans could even tweet twice about the new addition to men’s fashion, a Kanye’s Skirt account had been created on Twitter and tweeted throughout the night saying things like, “It seems I’m more popular than @kanyewest’s actual performance. Maybe I should think of going solo.”
Kimmy K. was in love with the loosely fitted skirt, however.
“Awwwwww I’m so excited right now!!!!! He looks so cute,” The Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality star tweeted once Yeezy took the stage.
From the reactions on Twitter, however, we’re pretty sure that the man skirt won’t become too hot of a trend any time soon.
“Soooo now everybody gone have that on! Ummm not me,” one male Twitter user said in the midst of the Kanye skirt hype.
An aspiring men’s fashion designer tweeted, “If I have to start measuring men for skirts I’m changing career paths and going to law school.”
In recent years we’ve already seen men’s fashion get tighter pants, more fitted shirts, and even made large tote bags perfectly acceptable but luckily it seems like most men are drawing the line when it comes to adding a leather skirt to their closet.
Even Dipset’s own Cam’Ron decided enough was enough with the recent trend of feminine pieces emerging into menswear.
“Pyrex and a skirt? S**t ain’t adding up And if u Co-sign this I’m blocking u!! Straight up. Ima have to save us,” he tweeted after catching an eye full of the “Power” rapper on stage in the skirt-leggings combo.
Unfortunately, Mr. West isn’t the only man sliding his way into skirts and dresses. Earlier this week A$AP Rocky also decided to get in touch with his feminine side.
The 24-year-old rapper made an appearance on 106 & Park in what appeared to be a dress over some skinny jeans and Timb’s.
He A$AP immediately defended his clothing option, declaring it was an oversized shirt rather than a dress.
“I was just on 106 and Park the other day with an oversized shirt on and everybody talkin’ about I wore a dress,” he stated in an interview with MTV News. “That’s foul and mine was long sleeve.”
Well unfortunately, for A$AP it’s not the sleeve length that matters here. With the white and black “oversized shirt” reaching well below his knees – it’s safe to say that this is indeed a dress.
However, the “F***in Problem” rapper did make a good point about fashion in general, although it didn’t change the fact that he was in a dress on national television.
“If fashion is your life and that’s what you like and that’s what you’re about, express yourself, wear what you want and nothing matters, nobody else opinions matter,” he added during his interview. “You’re gonna have times where people, they gonna try to joke on you, they’re gonna try to play you and all that, that just comes with life.”
