Whether or not you think the Golden Globes are a complete sham (cue rant from Deadline.com’s Nikki Finke), an excuse for A-listers to get drunk together, or a foreshadowing of future Academy Awards winners, we can all agree that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are the ideal duo to host the show.
The pair teased their future hosting gig with a little snippet of what’s to come. Rather than summarize the 30 second clip you’re about to watch, I’ll remind everyone of the accomplishments of these two phenomenal females and why you shouldn’t miss this years Golden Globes, in case you missed it back in October.
Weekend Update Co-hosts and real life bestiesFirst things first, 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation. The SNL “Weekend Update” veterans have sufficiently shown the world they can master unscripted and scripted television. Both women are writers and masterminds behind two wildly successful NBC shows. Tina Fey’s 30 Rock is wrapping its seventh and final season next year. At this point, 30 Rock has a whopping 39 achievement awards, ranging from Emmys to Golden Globes and a total of 145 nominations. The show broke records its first season, and continues to do so today. Amy Poehler’s Parks and Rec is an equally as buzzed about show. Parks and Rec has a huge cult following, handfuls of awards nominations, and only seems to get better with age.
As you can see from the clip below and in watching anything they do together (Baby Mama, Weekend Update, Mean Girls, Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin impressions, etc.), the duo has unparalleled chemistry. The know exactly how to interact with one another for the ultimate comedic timing. This probably stems from their long time friendship, beginning in 1993 at Chicago’s Second City improv group. The two fine tuned their funny bones while working off one another and haven’t looked back since.
While it’s fair to say the pair have uber successful solo careers, there’s nothing better than seeing them on screen together.
Don’t miss this clip, or the Golden Globes on January 13th.
