Ashanti Lands New TV Role…

Now that the singer Ashanti’s music career has dried up, she has dove back into the acting pool to get wet again. For the past few years, the R&B star has been auditioning for numerous acting roles and now she finally lucked up. Ashanti has recently booked a part on Lifetime’s Army Wives, as a series regular.

The singer turned actor will make her debut as Latasha Durant, who is described by a source, “as an optimistic mother of three: 11-year-old Quincy Jr. (known as Deuce), daughter Nyah, 8, and Gabe, 6, who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Latasha is described as a survivor with no self-pity who is determined to wrench all the joy out of life that she can. She’s a sexy, fun woman who knows how to keep a husband — and keep him in line.”

Army Wives is an American drama series that follows the lives of four army wives, their families, and an Army husband whose wife is in the Army. The series, shot at ABC Studios, premiered on Lifetime on June 3, 2007. The show had the largest series premiere in Lifetime’s 23-year history, and the largest viewership in the 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm time slot since December for Lifetime. It received favorable reviews and several award nominations, winning five ASCAP Awards and one Gracie Allen Award(Wiki).

Prior to landing this role on Army Wives, Ashanti has played parts on Resident Evil: Extinction, John Tucker Must Die and Coach Carter.
