There’s not a lot of time between now and the next Obama Inauguration; and details of the President’s plan for the upcoming ceremony are beginning to emerge. The theme for his second term inauguration is “Faith In America’s Future.” President Obama is hoping to capitalize on the faith the American people put into him by re-electing him to lead the country. There’s still a vibe of his previous hope-driven theme during his 2008 run for presidential office. Maybe there will be a clever catch phrase similar to the wildly popular “Yes We Can” motto of 2008.
Senator Schumer, chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, commented, “Our nation has faced countless challenges throughout its history, and each time we have come together as Americans and moved forward with renewed strength.” Perhaps the senators statement about challenges is in regards to the economy that has not made a full recovery since 2008, or the controversial health care plan dubbed “Obamacare” that was passed during the president’s first term. Whatever, the reason there seems to be an acknowledge that faith from the American people is necessary this go-round.
Obama will be sworn in on Monday, January 21, 2013. Usually, presidential inaugurations are held on January 20. However, that date falls on a Sunday in 2013, so the ceremony will take place the Monday, January 21. No matter what the date, January 2013 is symbolic in many ways and the inauguration committee is making sure the American people know about its historical implications. Obama’s Inauguration next year will be exactly 150 years from 1863; the year of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was signed. The Obama campaign is no stranger to paying homage to President Lincoln, as his 2009 inaugural theme was “A New Birth of Freedom;” a phrase borrowed from Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address.
Between now and the inauguration there are other, perhaps less stately but still important, matters to be handled. Matters like Christmas at the White House. Recently, Michelle Obama began readying the White House for Christmas with 54 Christmas trees, 300 pounds of ginger bread and a life-size replica of Bo, the First Dog. On this past Wednesday, Mrs. Obama wished “Joy to All” and gave the official viewing of the White House Christmas decorations as she welcomed military families into the First Family’s home.
President Obama’s Inauguration for his second term will be the country’s 57th Presidential Inauguration.
