Nicki Minaj is scared that she will get some serious backlash for being the mean judge on American Idol.
Minaj has been able to fearlessly hit the red carpet in some of the most ridiculous outfits that Hollywood has seen, and she was even able to perform through multiple nip slips on stage; but something about being the new judge on American Idol has her nervous.
The 29-year-old rapper turned pop star admitted that she doesn’t want people to see her as being too mean, but she does want to be brutally honest.
“I’m scared,” she admitted to one of her favorite television personalities, Ryan Seacrest on Monday. “Maybe I shouldn’t have been so like…”
The wig loving songstress couldn’t figure out the right words to describe her attitude on the show but she finally managed to explain, “It’s hard for me to not say how I really feel.”
The new American Idol judge already started the season off on a bad foot when American Idol constantly made headlines due to the feud between Minaj and fellow judge Mariah Carey.
Leaked footage of the heated argument showed the “Starships” singer using foul language towards Mariah and refusing to even let the R&B diva get a word in inch wise.
Later, during her three part reality special on E! Nicki even claimed that the “We Belong Together” crooner had “met her match.”
To make matters worse for Lil Wayne’s mentee, the footage showed her screaming at Mariah, but Nick Cannon’s wife simply sat there and refused to yell back at the hip hop Barbie.
“Everyone else is so nice,” Minaj said as she continued her interview with Ryan. “I was just thinking back about some things and I was like, ‘I wonder if that was not so nice.’”
She may be afraid of looking mean, but she still doesn’t regret anything she said to the contestants – or to the judges – as she claims it’s all just a matter of tough love.
“As an artist I’ve always grown more from the tougher criticisms,” said the “Masquerade” songstress. “…and so I would like to be that person to try to help people get that thick skin and to really give it their all, because it is a competition.”
Despite being scared of how her Barbz might react to her attitude on the show, she does believe that American Idol fans will enjoy the dynamics of the show.
“…I know people are going to love it,” she admitted. “I think it’s a great dynamic.”
As for her, she probably won’t be tuning in for the first few episodes and if she does it will certainly be a nerve wrecking, nail biting moment.
“I don’t think I’m going to be able to watch it. I’m going to be so nervous,” the “Pound the Alarm” singer admitted.
The good news is, despite how nasty her feud with Mariah may have looked on camera she claims that there really aren’t any harsh feelings – at least not the harsh feelings she apparently has towards Barbara Walters.
The quirky rapper, who teamed up with the mother of Monroe and Moroccan before for the hit song “Up Out My Face,” claimed that she wouldn’t be opposed to performing with the mother of two and admitted that they supposedly had great chemistry.
Well, American Idol fans and Barbz alike will certainly be on the lookout for Nicki and Mariah to join forces on stage for America’s top rated singing talent show.
