Marco Rubio’s Name The Latest Pulled Into Petraeus Sex Scandal

Freshman U.S. Senator Marco Rubio became the latest high-profile name dragged into the David Petraeus sex scandal on Thursday when it was revealed that the twin sisters at the center of the controversy crashed one of the Florida Republican’s campaign fundraisers in 2010, the part host said.

In other developments in the scandal, a newspaper report describes a photograph of the shirtless FBI agent in the case that forced Petraeus to resign as the CIA Director as silly but not scandalous.

The twins, Jill Kelley and Natalie Khawam, came to the party uninvited, took their photo with Rubio and quickly left without donating money to his Senate campaign, said Angelette Aviles, of Tampa.

“I thought it was disrespectful,” said Aviles, who posted a photo of the twins with Rubio on Twitter.

A Rubio spokesman said the senator doesn’t recall meeting the twins and added that Rubio has posed for countless photos with supporters over the years. Rubio’s spokesman noted Kelley, a Tampa socialite, has invited Rubio to several parties since he was elected to the Senate, but Rubio has never attended.

An attorney for Kelley did not return a phone call.

The FBI said Kelly received threatening emails from Petreaus mistress, Paula Broadwell, who apparently saw her as a romantic rival.

Kelley’s twin sister also socialized with the two generals. Both Petraeus and Allen wrote letters lauding Khawam as a devoted mother to help her in a bitter child custody battle with her ex-husband.

Earlier in that divorce case, Superior Court Judge Neal Kravitz had criticized Khawam for a lack of honesty and “misrepresentations about virtually everything.”

The Seattle Times says FBI agent Frederick Humphries sent the photograph to Kelly and others, including one of the paper’s own reporters, in an e-mail on Sept. 9, 2010.

The subject line read: “Which one is Fred?” The newspaper says it shows “Humphries – bald, muscular and shirtless – standing between a pair of equally buff and bullet-ridden target dummies on a shooting range.”

The photograph helped land Humphries in hot water. The FBI is investigating Humphries for talking with Republican lawmakers about the investigation into harassing emails that Kelley received from Petraeus’s biographer and mistress.
