Andre “3000” Benjamin, the successful rapper-turned-actor, recently wrapped up his part as Jimi Hendrix in the film All Is By My Side. Since receiving the part, the diverse musician hasn’t said too much about the role until now. While speaking to Spin Magazine in an interview, Benjamin elaborated a little about playing the legend and how he relates to him in many ways. “In researching him”, Benjamin said. “I saw that a lot of the paths that he went down where the same ones that I went down when I was a young kid. He did what he thought was right for his music. I always gravitated towards him.”
The actor goes on to talk comfortable about his performance as the guitar legend. When asked how he think the movie turned out he said, “This movie is the real sh!t right here. I think people will learn things they didn’t know.” About you? Asked the interviewer, Benjamin grins, “Wait and see.”
All Is By My Side will show Hendrix’ life while in England in 1966 and 1967. While there, he created legendary music with his guitar and also manufactured his debut album Are You Experienced.
The film was written and directed by John Ridley, who most recently wrote the Red Tails starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard. All Is By My Side is currently in post-production and may debut at Sundance 2013.
