There’s a new trailer out for Oz: The Great and Powerful. As you might have guessed from the title of this article. Anyway, as longer trailers are wont to do, this one introduces more of the plot of the movie. Oscar Diggs (James Franco’s character) is tasked with the three good witches of Oz (Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, and Rachel Weisz) with offing the bad witch. You know, the one with the green skin. I was under the impression that either Weisz or Kunis would be ending up with a more verdant shade, and now I’m not sure what’s up. Whatever.
Other new things in this trailer include what look like Oscar’s merry band of companions on his quest for witch-killing. A flying monkey voiced by Zach Braff is one, while a girl made of China (voiced by Joey King) is the other. The effects on both, especially the China girl, look pretty spectacular.
I’m definitely interested in this one. While the movie seems to be copying a few too many beats from the original Wizard of Oz film (it even looks like the Wicked Witch is making a grand entrance in the same place she does there), Sam Raimi has very rarely let us down. Oz comes out March 8, 2013. Check out the trailer for yourself:
