Experts revealed that Blue Ivy Carter’s parents Beyonce and Jay-Z still have the right to trademark their baby’s name, while aunt Solange guest curates a high end jewelry collection.
Beyonce’s efforts to trademark Blue Ivy’s name were thwarted when a Boston firm revealed that they had already been using the name since 2009, however, all hope isn’t lost if you ask certain business experts.
Jay-Z and Queen Bey planned on using the unique moniker to trademark several products such as “non-medicated hair care preparations” and “electric hair curlers” until an event planning business won a lawsuit in a legal battle over the name.
The victory doesn’t mean all is lost though, it simply means the megastar couple can’t use baby Blue’s name to open their own event planning firm.
“No judge ruled that Beyonce and Jay-Z do not have a legal right to protect the name,” explained Greenberg Glusker attorney Aaron Moss. “A trademark examiner determined that a Boston company, which began using the name Blue Ivy first, is entitled to register the mark in the field of event planning.”
So there you have it.
Blue Ivy’s name may not be available in case the “Countdown” crooner and the hip hop mogul decide to start throwing weddings for people, but the couple could make a pair of diapers and slap their baby’s name on it if they wanted to.
“…I think the main reason Beyonce and Jay-Z applied for trademark protection in Blue Ivy was to discourage others from using the na
me in connection with new products or businesses, and that seems to have worked, at least so far,” Moss added.
No word out yet on what exactly the future business plans will be for the famous Carters’ baby’s name, but in the mean time it seems Blue’s aunt Solange has been busier than ever.
Solange was just featured on the cover of ELLE South Africa and even remained in the exotic location to film her new music video for “Losing You,” and now she has become a guest jewelry curator for a high end collection.
The New York based jewelry collection, Lady Grey, just launched their e-commerce site and the fashion loving R&B songstress couldn’t help but get involved.
The site features some very expensive pieces, but what can you expect knowing that Solange has flaunted most of them on her very own wrists.
According to the Lady Grey site, Beyonce’s younger sister did a great job of laying multiple pieces for an “effortlessly cool” look.
The every so busy Knowles sisters have proved that becoming a mommy doesn’t necessarily mean that life has to slow down.
