A new trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s heavily anticipated Zero Dark Thirty has surfaced online, shedding some light on what can only be described as thrilling details.
Audiences now get a good look at the nature of Chris Pratt and Joel Edgerton’s soldier characters, as well as the importance of the CIA characters played by Jessica Chastain and Mark Strong.
Of course, Zero Dark Thirty follows the ten-year long manhunt for infamous al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and his inevitable demise at the hands of SEAL Team 6. Kathryn Bigelow, who earned two Oscars for her work on The Hurt Locker, is again showcasing her talent for putting military operations into thrilling action sequences by directing.
As the new trailer reveals, half of Zero Dark Thirty seems to be oriented towards boiler room type operations and interrogations while the other seems to cater toward military operations. The film’s success or failure may depend on the ability to execute both without sacrificing pace or drama. After all, Zero Dark Thirty’s premise and story is already known from its commencement to its conclusion (spoiler: they get bin Laden). Nevertheless, it’s good to see Bigelow’s ambition towards an unquestionably heavy topic. It’s also good to see a veteran like Mark Strong branching out from his English roots and play a prominent American figure.
Zero Dark Thirty will hit theaters on December 19. We’re sure that about four more trailers will surface before its release, some even during its release given the current Hollywood marketing climate. Enjoy the trailer below:
