Tom Hanks To Star In Nora Ephron's 'Lucky Guy' On Broadway

Rumors had been swirling that Tom Hanks would star in critically acclaimed screenwriter and playwright, Nora Ephron‘s, final piece. Today those rumors were confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Tom Hanks will in fact debut on Broadway this spring in Nora Ephron’s play Lucky Guy. The show is based on the true story of Mike McAlary, a rabble rousing tabloid journalist in the 1980’s and 90’s. McAlary’s roller coaster career centered on exposing the NYPD’s brutalization of Abner Louima. Ultimately the journalist succeeded and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1997. He died the following year of colon cancer. Ephron penned the drama before her death in late June.

Tom Hanks and Nora Ephron have a history of making box office hits, such as Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, but Broadway is a whole different beast. Hanks is a seasoned actor who can surely do no wrong, but it will  be fun to see him in a role he hasn’t already conquered.
