Whitney Houston is gone but certainly not forgotten. Singers Usher Raymond, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson are all scheduled to pay tribute to the late singer during a one-hour TV special.
The We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston will highlight the singer’s life and career. The tribute will be feature exclusive interviews, never-before-seen footage and various artists paying respect to one of the world’s biggest pop star.
The Recording Academy announced Thursday that the special will also include Houston’s “most memorable performances” and interviews with various artists. More performers are expected the join Usher, Jennifer and Celine.
The tribute will tape Oct. 11 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live and will air Nov. 16 on CBS. Houston died tragically at age 48 in February. Authorities called her death an accidental drowning, complicated by heart disease and cocaine use. Hours after her death Hudson had the unbelievable task of performing one of Houston’s greatest hits ‘I Will Always Love You’ at the Grammy Awards.
Houston was a six-time Grammy winner and performed eight times on the Grammy stage. Her last appearance on the annual music award show was in 2009 where she presented Hudson with her first Grammy for Best R&B Album.
Houston’s longtime friend and Sony SEO plans to release the compilation album I will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston on Nov. 13.
“I really wanted the public to hear Whitney with her voice intact. Tragically, it shows what her voice could have sounded like if, as she had promised me that week she passed away, that she was going to give up cigarettes entirely.”
