The crazy and controversial cast that is Real Housewives of Atlanta is prepped and ready to unleash a new season on the Bravo network. Season five includes new cast members, returning star players and of course, no shortage of drama. In case you’ve been living under a rock, the familiar lineup has shifted once again, most notably with the removal of two main staples Sheree Whitfield and Kim Zolciak.
Sheree left the show amidst rumors of conflict with other cast members namely NeNe Leakes, being fired after the reunion episode (Sheree denies the allegation) and claiming to be “tired of the pettiness and cattiness.” Kim Zolciak, who left season four to appear on the spinoff show Don’t Be Tardy For The Wedding, is slated to make several appearances during season five, but is no longer an official “Housewife” (good luck with that). Marlo Hampton, the infamous background player who always managed to scream her way into the forefront during season 4, will not be returning, and the rumor is she offended Bravo executives when letting a gay slur fly on the show. Whelp.
Actress/producer/director and former Miss USA Kenya Moore and Porsha Williams-Stewart, granddaughter to Civil Rights legend Hosea Williams will be making headlines and stirring the pot as the newest cast members. Atlanta socialite Porsha Williams is a budding musician and recently married NFL player Kordell Stewart. Kenya Moore kicked off the season by hosting a “Forever Relevant” gala Sunday night in Atlanta which brought out all the Housewives cast in their best costumes honoring Black Hollywood characters of times past. Just last week Peter Thomas, husband to Cynthia Bailey, hosted the black-tie “Salute To Excellence Awards: Men’s Health Awareness Charity Mixer” at the Biltmore. With the many social events and revamped lineup, this season is sure to be a hit. I will surely be tuning in on November 2nd to check out what’s in store for the latest round of dramedy in Atlanta besides this may be NeNe’s last season with the Housewives!
