Twitter killed off Bill Cosby again.
The legendary comedian was the subject of Twitter death rumors, with fans spreading the falsehood across the Internet for hours—sending others to actual news sources to verify whether the rumor was true.
Cosby, 75, was the subject of a similar Internet death hoax in 2010. That time he went on “Larry King Live” to refute the rumors.
This time he posted a tweet on his Twitter account:
“Emotional friends have called about this misinformation. To the people behind the foolishness, I’m not sure you see how upsetting this is.”
The Cos was not the only celebrity to get the false death treatment yesterday—Bill Nye The Science Guy, a fixture of children’s television, also was trending because of his so-called death. Other recent victims of the celebrity death hoax on Twitter include Cher, Jon Bon Jovi, Lindsay Lohan and Justin Bieber, who has been targeted more than once.
