There has been constant speculation over who will be the new American Idol judges—and now another intriguing name has been added to the long list of potential candidates: Kanye.
According to TMZ, rapper Kanye West has been approached about the position and is interested, according to a source, but he has not made a concrete decision. In addition to West, Nicki Minaj is also reported to be in talks with Idol producers, but she hasn’t confirmed her involvement either. The only confirmed new judge is singer Mariah Carey and, according to various reports, she isn’t happy about the possibility of Minaj joining the lineup because she thought she would be the only female judge.
Although Carey’s displeasure hasn’t been confirmed, she seems to think one of her famous friends would be perfect for the role. Carey tweeted a picture of her and rocker Lenny Kravitz with a caption suggesting she thought he deserved a spot as an Idol judge. “”@American Idol what’s going on? need the info!! What about this combo? : ) if we could ever get him to do it,” she wrote.
Other celebrities have been open about their interest in being an Idol judge. Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers confirmed that he is negotiating with Idol via his Twitter page. “The rumors are true,” said Jonas. “I am being considered to be a judge on ‘American Idol,’ and it would be a dream come true if it happens.”
Singer and former Idol contestant Adam Lambert is also interested in being on the other side of the judges’ table. “I am still waiting on the green light; I am still being considered as far as I know and it was really lovely to talk with them,” Lambert said.
Other celebrities that are allegedly being considered include Enrique Iglesias, Keith Urban, and Miley Cyrus.
