Gabby Douglas' Money And Hair Woes Are A Distant Memory

Gabby Douglas new hairstyle is putting her critics in check. First Gabby’s people sought out celebrity hair stylist Ted Gibson after the relentless criticism over her hair. Gibson who’s styled the likes of Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie believed like many of us the criticism was beyond ridiculous and likely negatively impacted Gabby’s performance in her last two events at the London Olympics.

“I couldn’t believe it and still can’t. You have this young girl doing amazing things, and the conversation becomes about her hair? It was ridiculous and shameful. I believe all that talk had to take a toll on her…you’ve worked so hard for something and then people tear you apart for little or nothing.”

Meanwhile the petite gold medal Olympian may be caught in a battle with her father over her lucrative endorsements.

Gabby’s father Timothy Douglas left the family years ago leaving her mother Natalie Hawkins to raise her brother and sisters.

“It was really hard for us growing up—my dad had left us, so he wasn’t really in the picture anymore,” she said. “So my mom had to front all these bills. My dad didn’t really pay the child support. He was short [on money]. It was definitely hard on her part and she had to take care of me and the rest of my siblings.”

In London Gabby’s father’s side of the family were not offered tickets to watch her perform.

“We don’t know how many tickets were given, and how they were given, we only know they were not given to us,” said Timothy’s mother to the National Enquirer.

Despite the expected snub Gabby’s father is proud of her.

“I am so proud of my daughter and everything she has accomplished. Words can’t describe all the love and happiness I have in my heart for her right now.  I’m just very, very proud of her.”

It is unclear if Timothy and his children can mend their broken relationship but life will certainly be easier for Gabby’s mother. Natalie was forced to file for bankruptcy and is nearly $80K in debt but her daughter is expected to accrue millions in endorsement deals.

“People were like, ‘Gabby’s going to smile all the way to the bank,’” Gabby recalled to the Des Moines Register that . “I remember reading that, and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, I have to stop. I’m going to foam at the mouth with all this money.”

Gabby added, “I just have to learn how to save it and control myself. I wasn’t the richest kid on the block and my family struggled a little bit. We went through some very tough times… But I’m so happy that I stuck with it and can bring my family out of the financial situations.”
