ABC’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ has chosen the ballroom dancing version of The Avengers.
The show’s first all-star season may be an attempt to use the attraction powers of their superhero dancers to boost ratings that have been slipping in past seasons.
The all-star edition of Dancing With The Stars will bring back Bristol Palin, Pamela Anderson, Shawn Johnson, Joey Fatone and Apolo Anton Ohno Kirstie Alley, Helio Castroneves, Gilles Marini, Kelly Monaco, Drew Lachey, Melissa Rycroft, and Emmit Smith
Viewers will have to vote on the thirteenth and final competitor from a shortlist that includes Sabrina Bryan, Carson Kressley, and Kyle Massey.
However it’s the controversy surrounding Bristol Palin that will likely build buzz around upcoming season. As the daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin she made it to the final three in her previous appearance, which critics complained only happened because of a concentrated campaign by pro Sarah Palin groups. When Palin was asked during a TCA panel if she would be okay with being partnered with a gay dancer, she replied:
“I like gays,” she said. “I’m not a homophobic and I’m so sick of people saying that. Just because I’m for traditional marriage doesn’t really mean I’m scared or anything of anyone else, and I don’t hate anybody. You know, people are going to make up stuff about me no matter what. Whatever. I’m going to go dance and I’m going to have fun. … It’s not about politics and it’s not about traditional marriage and anything like that. It’s just about dancing and it’s going to be fun.”
