Warner Bros. Hires New Writer To Pen Hugh Hefner Biopic

Warner Bros. is in final negotiations with Peter Morgan to write the Hugh Hefner biopic, which the studio acquired the rights for back in March of this year. The film was originally with Imagine Entertainment before the move over to Warners.

The writer met with the Playboy on Tuesday and after, Hefner tweeted, ”I had a good meeting today with screenwriter Peter Morgan discussing a film about my life.”

Hugh Hefner is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Playboy. He came from a strict religious background to become the father of the sexual revolution movement. The pioneer also used his magazine to help the civil rights movement in the 60s. Hefner put singer James Brown on his show Playboy After Dark when no one else would feature black performers on national television.

Morgan, who most recently wrote Fernando Meirelles’ 360 and Ron Howard’s upcoming Rush, is an Academy Award nominee for his screenplays for The Queen and Nixon.

Jerry Weintraub (The Karate Kid and National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation) will produce the biopic.
