The Rock confirms he is negotiating to play the alien mercenary Lobo in a DC Comics film.
Although most of the Marvel and DC superhero movie news has been coming out of Comic-Con in San Diego, Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson has some comic book film news of his own. The actor turned wrestler confirmed, via Twitter, he is currently in negotiations to play the DC character Lobo.
“Rumours of me possibly playing LOBO are true,” said The Rock via his official Twitter account. “Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun…”
Lobo is an alien mercenary who started out as one of DC’s major villains in the 1990’s. He was gradually converted into a super tough, anti-hero biker guy, on which the movie version may be based on.
As The Rock mentioned in his tweet, Brad Peyton will serve as director for the comic movie. The director and the action movie star has worked together before in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
Other than Johnson’s tweet there has been no other official word on the status of the movie.
Already some fans are wondering how good a fit Johnson is for the Lobo role. Because the character was super massive with ultra white skin, some say that The Rock may be too small and will need a superb makeup job to pull the role off.
However, Lobo wouldn’t be Johnson’s first comic book character. The Fast Five actor is set to star in next summer’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation and is reportedly attached to the film versions of the Oni Press graphic novel Ciudad and Radical Publishing’s Hercules: The Thracian War.
