RoboCop Remake Gets Promoted With New Viral Video

RoboCop remake gets viral video and website.

José Padilha’s RoboCop remake is in pre-production and has over a year left before it debuts in theaters. Yet, MGM has launched a new viral website and video to promote the movie.

OmniCorp.com, is the mock corporate website for the fictional company in the movie responsible for creating RoboCop.  An “Access Denied” notice is returned when most of the site’s links are clicked. However, the “Product Line” link leads to a viral video which gives a sneak peek at some of the weapons that may be featured in the film.  The updated ED-209 automated security sentry and the dangerous looking XT-908 aerial drone were the showcased war machines in the video. There is also a brief siting of what looks like the chassis of the new RoboCop, described as “human resources meets robotic engineering.”

RoboCop was written by Michael Miner, Edward Neumeier, Nick Schenk, Joshua Zetumer, and The Amazing Spider-Man’s James Vanderbilt. Joel Kinnaman (AMC’s The Killing) plays mortally wounded cop, Alex Murphy, who is turned into RoboCop. Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman (Soldier) plays Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop. Samuel L. Jackson stars as the “charismatic media mogul,” Pat Novak, while  Hugh Laurie (House) is set to play the CEO of OmniCorp.

The Robocop remake is scheduled to be released in Summer of 2013.
