Venus & Serena Team To Win 2 Doubles Matches In One Day

Venus and Serena Williams took to the court at Wimbledon, England, to do something that is extremely rare in professional tennis: They had to win two matches in the same day, due to bad weather.

Heavy rain caused a large portion of the doubles matches to be delayed, backing up so many matches that it forced the duo to play twice.

Venus and Serena won their first match in three sets, defeating Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova 3-6, 6-3, 9-7. They didn’t have as much trouble with their next opponents, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and India’s Sania Mirza, 6-4, 6-3.

Some thought Serena would back out of the matches in light of her semifinals singles match on Thursday against heavy hitter Victoria Azarenka. Agnieszka Radwanska, also a singles semifinalist, pulled out of her doubles match with her sister in order to be fresh for her match.

But Serena had no interest in backing out on sister Venus, whose Wimbledon has been disappointing as she lost in singles in the first round.
