Rihanna Cancels Show After Grandmother’s Passing

The death of her grandmother has forced Rihanna to cancel a performance scheduled for Thursday in Madrid at the Rock in Rio festival.

Organizers of the festival are trying to find a last-minute replacement for the “We Found Love” diva, but they have also offered fans a refund. Perhaps it was a good idea for Rihanna to cancel her performance because things didn’t go so well for her in Sweden when she went onstage after getting the news of the passing of her grandmother, Clara ‘Dolly’ Braithwaite: She was 45 minutes late and mistakenly dedicated Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” to Norway, prompting some fans to bizarrely walk out of the show.

Rihanna had been sending out tweets constantly during her grandmother’s battle with cancer, saying after a visit to her New York hospital room: “My heart smiled and cried all at once.”

After she found out about the death, she tweeted, “Goodbye grangranDolly get your beauty rest until I see you. grangranDolly that is all.” Then she posted a series of pictures of herself with her grandmother.

Her performance at this weekend’s Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park is still scheduled to go proceed.
