Ice Age 4, The Amazing Spiderman Have Strong International Openings

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift doesn’t come out until next Friday in the United States but it is already an international hit. The film opened in 34 markets and landed the number one spot in all of them. The movie grossed more than $78 million. This achievement is particularly notable since this installment of Ice Age has fewer than half the screens Ice Age 3 did in 2009, according to Fox.

One Fox executive expressed excitement over the opening. “An absolutely extraordinary opening weekend,” said the anonymous executive to Deadline.com.

The furry Ice Age characters aren’t the only ones making their rounds across the globe. According to the Los Angeles Times, The Amazing Spiderman has made a strong debut in Asia grossing $50 million over the weekend. Like Ice Age 4, The Amazing Spiderman hasn’t opened in the U.S. yet and won’t until Tuesday.
