In her highly-anticipated and controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey, reality TV star Kim Kardashian says she’s got a new outlook on life now that she’s dating an “older” and “wiser” Kanye West and surrounding herself with friends who’ve got decades on her 31 years.
When Oprah noted that Kardashian seems to have matured since her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, Kardashian responded, “I’m totally growing up.”
“A lot of my friends, the people that I love to just sit and talk to and spend my time with, are wiser, a little bit older than me,” added Kardashian, who, along with sisters Khloe and Kourtney, mom Kris Jenner, step dad Bruce Jenner and the rest of her extended reality TV clan, sat with Oprah for her OWN show, “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” “Before I used to, you know, all my boyfriends were younger. I always dated five years younger. My whole thing was completely different.”
Dating West and hanging with friends who are “sometimes 20, 30 years older” than her helped mature her, Kardashian said—a process much like that her sister, Kourtney, experienced when she gave birth to her son, Mason. “Kourtney had this epiphany when she had the baby and she changed into a different person,” Kardashian said. “I feel like I’ve had an epiphany over the last year for what I’ve been through, and I am that changed person just from my own experiences.”
For her part, Oprah said she had never met the Kardashians, nor seen their show, so she had to do a full Kardashian cram course to prepare for the interview.
“I did a full on Kardashian Kram in preparation, watching major shows from every season,” she said.
Oprah’s interview with Kim Kardashian and her family airs in two parts—June 17 and June 24 at 8 p.m. EST. on OWN.
