Robin Roberts Fortunate And Eager To Begin Transplant

Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts returned to the show this morning, a day after revealing she is fighting the rare blood disease MDS, or myelodysplastic syndrome.

“I slept like a baby for the first time since my diagnosis,” Roberts said at the top of the show. She will undergo a bone-marrow transplant with the marrow of her sister Sally-Ann Roberts.

“Bone marrow donors are scarce and particularly for African-American women. I am very fortunate to have a sister who is an excellent match, and this greatly improves my chances for a cure.”

During the show this morning Roberts set down with ABC News chief health and medical editor Dr. Richard Besser to discuss the possibility that this new setback may be the result of the treatments she received during her successful battle with breast cancer.

Roberts again thanked the public for all of their love and support.
