Kerry Washington Doesn't Enjoy Her Steamy Love Scenes on 'Scandal'

Kerry Washington loves Scandal, but not when it involves her steamy love scenes with co-star Tony Goldwyn.

In Scandal, Washington plays a former White House Communications Director for the President, who has resigned to start her own crisis management firm Pope and Associates. Her character seeks to make a living protecting the public images of the nation’s elite by securing their career damaging secrets.

In a recent interview, Washington sat down with EW to talk about her favorite scenes in the ABC political drama. The actress expressed that the steamy scenes she shares with Goldwyn were not as pleasurable as watching co-star Guillermo Diaz torture another actor.

“That stuff is not fun, at all,” she said. “Those are private moments. But that’s what acting is — it’s about… having the courage to allow your audience into the private moments of your characters’ lives. Those are difficult.”

Diaz  plays Huck Finn, the investigator for Pope and Associates, while Goldwyn portrays her married former boss, President Fitzgerald “Fitz” Grant , with whom Pope is having an affair.

Scandal is produced by Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy/ Private Practice).  The political thriller is loosely based on former George Bush’s administration press aide Judy Smith, who  also serves as a co-executive producer. The Season 1 finale aired on May 17th, but Scandal has already been renewed by ABC for a second season.
