Rock The Bells 2012 Lineup: Missy Elliott, A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and More

Rock The Bells finally released its lineup and dates. Nas is headlining the festival with some other rappers doing stuff, too. The big surprise that everyone was waiting for was the announcement of Missy Elliot and Timbaland performing together and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s reunion show as they perform ‘E. 1999 Eternal’ in its entirety. If Outkast would stop trippin’, maybe we all could have got what we wanted. But I digress…

It’s interesting to see so many newer rappers on the lineup like Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky, Ab Soul and 2 Chainz because this festival has been branding itself as the “Let’s bring classic artists back to perform their most classic album” show. But I’m glad they are trying to appeal to all sides of the hip hop/underground hip hop spectrum.

This lineup definitely has some highs and lows, but what I’m more interested in are a few things:

Rock The Bells will only be in three cities, two in California and one in New Jersey. Last year, they canceled the Boston date at the last minute because of lack of ticket sales so I wonder if the interest is fading. Either way, I still think New York would bring more people out than New Jersey, and I guess we can just forget about Chicago.
