Romo Disputes Cris Carter’s Claim He Threatened to End His Career

In his day, former NFL linebacker Bill Romanowski did some pretty volatile and nasty stuff, like spiting in J.J. Stokes’ face and viciously beating up a teammate. But he made it clear he did not threaten to end former receiver Cris Carter’s career, as the former wide receiver claimed on Tuesday.

“It is absolute fiction,” Romanowski said on the Dan Patrick Show Wednesday.  “If he could read my mind in pre-game, yeah, maybe he had it right. But I didn’t talk before games. I was in the zone.”

On ESPN radio’s Hill and Schlereth show, Carter said he had approached his offensive lineman to offer a bounty on opposing players, including Romanowski, who he said told him, “Carter, I’m gonna end your career” during pregame when he played for Minnesota and Romo for Denver.

“I’m guilty of it,” Carter said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever admitted it, but I put a bounty on guys before. And the guys tried to take me out, a guy tried to take a cheap shot on me, I put a bounty on him, right now.”

Said Romanowski: “If he put a bounty on me, it wasn’t very good because it didn’t work,” Romanowski said. “I just think this is his way of trying to make himself relevant for what is going on now.”

  1. BS ! He stomped FB Larry Centers throat when he was on the Birds and was kicked out of the game …

  2. Chris Moore says:

This link needs to be changed from "Romo" to Romanowski. It's pretty misleading in today's game.

  3. Romanowski was a throwback, a player you won't see again in this league. He did what he had to do to win.

  4. Seth A Moore says:

Bill Romanowski needs to be put to sleep like a rabid pit bull….hes a known steroid user so maybe he doesn't remember things said during his "roid rage" before games, like his word is worth anything, if CC says it, its true!

  5. Jim Puder says:

CC is not much better. He's a documented cocaine user, so his word doesn't carry much more weight than Rominowski's.

  6. Jim Puder says:

He also attacked a team mate in training camp. So that's not IT.

  7. Jim Puder says:

Including cheating, usring steroids, hooking his kids on supplements, etc. Yeah, real throwback.

  8. I watched every game Carter played for the Vikings. Every game somebody tried to end his career.

  9. Rudy Arruda says:

And I bet him and that teammate went for beers later, if you ever played football at any level especially that level it happens ALL THE TIME, I think a few coaches this year were already had things done to them worse then that on TV!

  10. Rudy Arruda says:

Come on dude you for real!!! You think that lasted the rest of the year, it lasted til they went to the bar and the roids wore off alittle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Rudy Arruda says:

Jim Puder , what was you his buddy or bitch if you know alll that to be FACT!

  12. Rudy Arruda says:

Jim Puder , what was you his buddy or bitch if you know alll that to be FACT!

  13. Jim Puder says:

Actualy, the guy got cut from the team. So yeah, I expect it lasted.

  14. Jim Puder says:

It's all well documented, ace. Read the news. Or are you a believer that the news outlets were out to get Romo?

  15. Laslo Bigsby says:

I kept thinking how does Tony Romo figure into this equation and I realized after reading that Romo = Romanowski- The writer of this terrible article hides behind "posted by ABS staff" and should be fired IMMEDIATELY if not sooner for being a complete an utter idiot. Fu**ing MORON!

  16. And you're stupid. Carter turned his career around after being cut by the Eagles, cleaned up his life and went on to achieve Hall of Fame numbers in his career and now is a prominant ESPN football analyst. Romanowski…………..not so much.

  17. John Brush says:

I can't see how it would be possible for Tony Romo to end Chris Carter's career. Are there any editors left who know what their job really is?

  18. CC was using coke when he was in Philly, witch was very early on in his career, not his entire career so I think his word definitely stands for something. As for Rominowski, he was a roid freak and he definitely doesn't remember things he did while on them. That said he was a good player. Honestly I'm biased being a Vikes and Broncos fan.

  19. Carter is now a reporter that reports things from todays NFL. Romo is an NFL QB for the Cowboys. When I clicked on this retarded story I was expecting to see something about an 'off the record' story about Romo telling Carter he was going to quit, he was threatening to quit! Like, Carter in some way inspired him or changed his mind and now he is spewing the story. NOPE! POOR journalism! HORRIBLY misleading story line. What next? 'Romo admits to doing steroids before he leaves football'?

  20. Funny how he never really is called out for being a "thug" in the way we call out lesser players for similar behavior. I get the tough-guy on the field, but the malicious use of that helmet was unprecedented.

  21. Kimberly Harris says:

I wanted to read aboutTony Romo. I guess writers will try anything to generate traffic to their site ( and invite people like me to read AND comment.). I am so gullible! Since we are here, does it bother anyone else that Cris Carter has the guys on ESPN calling him CC? No one called him that before CC Sabathia hit the scene or maybe he has a thing for CCH Pounder. In any case it unoriginal

  22. Vernon Williams says:

I have seen people and old teammates call cris carter CC years ago.

  23. Jim Puder RAY Lewis and JJ Watt along with BRIAN Cushing do the same thing.

  24. Romonowski was a racist ..and it showed….I'm glad he was exposed…like most of the rest who are hiding behind things
