After a sneak peek teaser was released last week, the full trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Total Recall has made its way online. The film, which stars Colin Farrell as Douglas Quaid, is a newly updated version of the original 1990 film of the same name.
Total Recall centers around the dystopian future of 2084 where Euroamerica (formerly the United States and the European Union) and New Shanghai (formerly China and South East Asia) fight for supremacy on the planet. Douglas Quaid is a simple factory worker suffering from violent nightmares that leave him wondering if he’s a spy whose memory and personality were erased and replaced. Unaware of whose side he fought on, he teams up with a young female freedom fighter, Melina (Jessica Biel).
Judging from the Total Recall trailer, the Len Wiseman directed film appears to be darker and more serious than it’s predecessor, but still full of action. Although Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed an interest to reprise his role as Doug Quaid, in October 2010, Colin Farrell was deemed a better choice for unspecified reasons.
Kurt Wimmer, Mark Bomback, and James Vanderbilt all played a role in creating the script. Aside from Farrel and Biel, other well-known stars are slated to appear.
The movie opens in theaters in August 2012. Watch the Total Recall trailer below:
